Six-year-old Leland Shoemake was a premature baby, who was born with health struggles. As he was a fighter baby, he overcome his health conditions as a newborn, and clung to life.
Leland was a smart boy, who enjoyed learning. He loved to watch documentaries, about history, and even weather conditions.
As he was a curious boy, later he started to play with dirt, as he would make things and examine mud, and worms.
Sadly, in 2015, this curiousity of Leland had led to a catastrophic result.
As Leland’s parents took their son to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, with vomiting, headache and fever, the medical team had no idea what was wrong with Leland.
Later, they found out that Leland had amoeba Balamuthia mandrillaris, which was a rare infection in brain. He possibly took the infection from playing in the dirt.
At the age of 6, Leland closed his eyes, as he left his younger brother and parents in tears with grief.
After the parents, mother Amber and father Tim Shoemake went back to their home, as they were mourning over the loss of their son from the hospital where their son’s gave his last breath, they found a note from Leland, while they were packing his clothes.
“Stil (sic) with you… Thank you mom and dad… Love.” Was written on the note Leland left to his parents.
There was a big red heart shape in the note, which had writings in it, “mom, “dad,” and “love.”
As the mother of Leland, Amber had shared the story on her Facebook account, she wrote, “We were in shock and broke down as soon as we saw it. He was amazing in life and still is after his passing.”
